Bill Wilmore, Mike Ergas shine in Atlanta
Written by: Shawn Perine
Date: Saturday 19 November, 2005

Superheavyweight Bill Wilmore brought what may very well be his all-time best condition to bear at the 2005 NPC Nationals in Atlanta, seemingly dominating his class at Friday's prejudging and putting himself into solid contention for overall honors.
In the seven men's weight classes, Wilmore was the only athlete to be sent back to the lineup after a first callout, indicating that the judges may have seen all they needed to determine a winner in the Superheavies.

Gold's Venice stalwart Mike Ergas showed a brand new, sleeker look, and was rewarded with a well-deserved first callout. The man who portrayed Franco Columbu in "See Arnold Run" displayed Columbuesque hardness and was super dry to boot. But he was pushed hard by wide-backed Georgian Jonathan Rowe (who brought a vigorous cheering section along with him) and perennial frontrunner Darrell Terrell. USA runnerup Faramarz Aghazadeh, who gave Phil Heath a run for his money in Vegas, couldn't match his Sin City conditioning, but received a first callout nonetheless.

Charles Ray Arde seems to be the frontrunner in the Light-Heavyweight class. Like Aghazadeh, he may not have quite achieved his USA conditioning, but has the shape, mass and overall quality to put him in good stead for tomorrow's evening show.

Las Vegas' Garrett Alin seems to be the class of the Middleweight class. Jose Raymond is a standout in the Welterweights. Sereiryth Leandre, he of the massive quads, looked good in the Lightweights. David Candy of Pittsburgh made a strong impression in the Bantamweight class.

In an historic and emotional ceremony during the height of the evening's proceedings 8-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman presented 8-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney with a special recognition award for his lifetime of contributions both inside and outside of bodybuilding.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for all the results of the 2005 NPC Nationals as soon as they come down the pipe!
